Join us for our fifth and final summer session as we celebrate the community we have formed throughout the summer. In this class you and your child will become a performance artist as they explore creative movement settings centered around the theme of the four elements: earth, air, fire, and water. In this class children will have the opportunity to bolster their social and emotional intelligence by considering how eye contact, body language, non-verbal gestures, and facial expressions all inform how we communicate. Each child and their caregiver will be invited to participate in whole body movement activities that inspire us to consider how we can embody the natural elements we encounter in our everyday environments.
Note: this class is not just for your child so come prepared to participate!
This playgroup is for movers of all ages!
Week Four
Big Lines, Little Lines: Mark Making and Movement! with Romina Robinson
About this playgroup:
How do the tops of our shoulders connect the whole way down to the tips of our fingers? How would you move your body when making a huge arching stripe vs. a tiny, scratchy line? What methods do professional artists use when creating their giant masterpieces of abstraction?
Join us as we explore these questions through direct artistic practice and consider how gross motor and fine motor development work in tandem. In this class your child’s knowledge of lines and whole body awareness will expand as we dive deep into mark making with a wide range of unconventional mediums on large scale canvases.
This playgroup is for our bigger littles ages 3-6.

As a group we will examine foraged found objects, discuss the colors that we see, and construct our own assemblage of mixed media parts to form a giant rainbow. Are you ready to squish, scratch, stomp, pull, pinch, and push? In this week’s class, we will explore the possibilities of clay! Working in a large group, children will investigate a large slab of clay, with an open invitation to manipulate the giant block in its original form. Next, we will discuss hand and tool sculpting techniques during which time children will be given their own individual size piece of clay to mark and mold as they create a lasting work of art to bring home.
This playgroup is for our bigger littles ages 3-6.
Week One
Movement and Imagination with Chelsea Acree
About this playgroup:
Have you ever spent some time walking along the Hudson River? If so, what did you encounter? Have you ever found a piece of driftwood?
Drawing from the inspiration of author William Miniver’s Driftwood Days, in this class parents and children will be asked to reflect on their experiences living in the Hudson River Valley, visiting the shore, or traveling to any body of water where driftwood can be found. We will consider the life of driftwood throughout the seasons, how it forms, how it changes over time, and who it meets along the way. After examining these questions and investigating real driftwood, we will use our own bodies to travel through the life’s journey of a piece of driftwood.
This class requires parents and caregivers to move and dance together so come wearing comfortable clothing and be prepared to participate!
This playgroup is open to movers of all ages!
Baby & Toddler Music
Baby & Toddler Music & Rhythm with Gina Samardge
About this playgroup:
This playgroup is full!
Nature abounds with movement and sound! Together we’ll experience musical concepts such as tempo, dynamics, melody and rhythm through the lens of our natural environment. We’ll leap like frogs, fly like pollinators, sprout and grow like seeds. We’ll create a rainstorm and forest soundscape through the exploration of our voices and instruments. Come ready to sing, move, play and imagine as we immerse ourselves in the act of music making!
Instruments and props will be provided each week. Participating families will receive a book of our songs and rhymes to continue the fun at home.
*In the event of a weather related cancellation, August 29th will be held as our rain date.
